ALL PROCEEDS GO TO HELP PALO ALTO LIBRARIES

Marty's (Main) Book Room
In our Main Room, prices are way below what used book stores charge. Paperbacks are 50 cents and up, and hardcovers are $1 and up. Numbered tickets for the Main Room are given out beginning at 8 am on Saturday. These reserve your place in the line that forms before the 11 am opening. If you plan on arriving to the sale AFTER 11 am you do NOT need to get a number.

Please note that due to crowding during the first two hours of the Book Sale, no strollers, rolling carts, etc. can be brought into the Main Room. This is for the safety of shoppers and volunteers alike. By 12:30 or so, the crowd thins out and shoppers are welcome to bring these items into the sale.

Children's Book Sale in New Location
The Children's Room has moved to the portable formerly occupied by the Jewish Community Center next to the soccer field. It is entirely filled with children's books and toys. You'll find picture books, school age fiction and non-fiction, award winners, non-English titles, and books for parents and teachers, most for 50 cents or $1. This room and the Bargain Room open at 10 am on Saturday. Strollers are welcome in the Children's Room at any time.

Bargain Books in K-7
The Bargain Room is located in Rooms K 6-7 of the Cubberley main campus, right next to the tennis courts. Paperbacks are 50 cents, hardcovers are $1, and children's books are just 25 cents each. The room also contains many LP records and 78s at $1 each. On Sunday, the room opens at 11 am and all prices are half off. Save even more on Sundays by buying grocery bags from us for $5 each and stuffing them with any items in the room. Buy 4 bags and get the 5th one FREE!

Downtown, Mitchell Park Libraries Are Closed
The Downtown Library has closed for renovations. Mitchell Park has also closed and will be completely rebuilt. Meanwhile operations have been moved to the Cubberley Community Center Auditorium, which is slated to open June 28 and will remain open while the new Mitchell Park Library/Youth Center is built. Check with the Library for full details.

Non-Profit Book Giveaway
Non-profit organizations, schools and teachers that need FREE books should come to the Bargain Room this month from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, June 13. Please bring your own grocery bags to put books into. More information.

June Sale Highlights

Another THANK YOU for all who attended (and bought) at the May Sale. A month that has traditionally been a slow sales month turned out to be well above average. As promised, the June Sale will be one of our biggest in recent months in terms of quantity. Along with a plethora of library donations as a result of the recent library closures we have also been swamped with donations from the community. We love it! While we didn't receive any very specialized donations this month there is good quality and quantity in every section. Some highlights.... A very nice donation of Russian books covering language, history, culture, and music will be made available over the next month or two. These will be in the appropriate sections. Russian Language books are located under the window to the left of Nature.... More DVD Movies from a wonderful benefactor who donated a large portion of his movie library. They are in the usual spots as well as the Specials table near the front and the bookcase next to the office.... More excellent French books from the Boudart family estate of Atherton. These are located in the former "glass case" as well as in the Foreign Language section.... Eastern Religions has a fair amount of popular books including titles from the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hahn.... The History and Military History aisle have an excellent assortment to choose from.... The Fiction Corner has expanded a bit where they'll be more to choose from than usual.... Popular Science is well represented this month.... Baseball is prominent in crowded Sports section.... And to coincide with the start of the World Cup a fine selection of Soccer books is featured. The Children's Room is having a special on VHS tapes - buy one, get one of equal or lesser value FREE.... Don't forget, if you come early we have a Tent Sale (weather permitting) right outside the Main Room entrance. It opens at 9am and everything there is only $1.00 each!

Talking Books Featured This Month in Main, Bargain Rooms
We received a large donation of Books on CD. They'll be featured in the usual section next to Humor, as well as the bookcase next to the former glass case. Most of these are in unopened, brand new condition in many different subjects and includes both fiction and non-fiction...Books on Tape will be featured in the Bargain Room, many ex-library titles filling over 15 feet of shelf space, priced at $1.00 each set.

Exceptional/Collectible Books Sale is Off
We had hoped to offer an Exceptional/Collectible Books Sale in June but due to many factors it just didn't come together. We'll try again for July. The sale will take place in the new FOPAL Annex, where the new Children's Room is located.

New Children's Room and Bargain Room Makeover
The new Children's Room has opened to rave reviews. With lots more space to display books and a stroller-friendly environment both volunteers and shoppers are very happy. Be sure to visit the new space, located next to Greendell School and the soccer field/running track on the south side of the Cubberley campus.

The Bargain Room has been completely reshelved with high quality library shelving donated by the Palo Alto Downtown Library. In addition the sales floor has expanded into the adjacent room, K-6, formerly occupied by the Children's Room. While we're still working on the layout, you'll find most of the subjects in roughly the same areas, a new map will be available at the door. The Bargain Room is a full sale in itself, donation levels were very high this month and the Bargain Room is stocked full in both rooms.

Sunday! Sunday! - Mystery 50% Off Sale; Free Books for Sunday Shoppers
Sundays are a great time to shop the Book Sale. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful and there are still thousands of great books available. Each Sunday we have a 50% off sale on one category of books in the Main Room. The category will not be announced ahead of time, the only way you can find out which category is on sale is by attending the sale on Sunday. Signs will be posted on the doors and on the shelves of the section involved on the morning of the Sale. In addition, we will have a small selection of FREE books available to shoppers on Sunday. One free book per person, and you must purchase at least one item from the Sale. There are a limited number of free books and first-come, first-served. This applies to the Main Room only. Doors open at 11 am.

One-Liners
The Annual Members-Early Sale has been set for Saturday, November 13. Details will be published in future newsletters and will also be made available on the web site.... There are still some magazines left over from the giant library donation we received just before the May Sale.... VHS Movies will no longer be sold in the Main Room.... VHS Movies will only be sold in the Bargain Room and the Outdoor Tent Sale...Instructional VHS tapes will be phased out of the Main Room over time as well...Several bookcases, desks and files will be available in the Bargain Room...Coming Soon - sell your stuff on eBay and donate a portion of the proceeds to FOPAL!

Think Ecologically! - Bring or Donate Your Own Bags

Due to the increasing reuse of grocery and other bags, we tend to run short at our sales and encourage you to bring your own cloth tote or paper bags to the sale. If you have any extra grocery bags in good condition please bring them for your purchases at the sale. We would also gladly accept any extra bags you wish to donate. NO BOXES are allowed in the sale, however.
